After 11 months as its interim police chief, Chris Harris was formally appointed chief of the Conway Police Department by Mayor Bart Castleberry in November of 2024.

Harris, who has been with the Conway Police Department since 2004, had previously spent about two years as the assistant chief before replacing William Tapley when he retired in December of 2023.

A Navy veteran, Harris holds multiple degrees in criminal justice and is a graduate of the FBI National Academy, the School of Law Enforcement Supervision and Arkansas Leader program at the University of Arkansas System's Criminal Justice Institute and the Faulkner County Leadership Institute.

Since joining the Conway Police Department, Harrison has held the ranks of patrolman, sergeant, lieutenant, major, assistant chief and interim chief.

In that time, he's served as a patrolman, a field training officer, a SWAT Team member and commander, a hostage negotiator and a public information officer.

Harris has also worked on the U.S. Marshals Service Fugitive Task Force.
